Business Thinking?

Facilitated, structured team workshops to think, explore, challenge focus and plan for success.  Business thinking is the essential turbulence that drives business growth and development.

The word innovation often invokes thoughts of large scale, high‐risk change, however…

most successful innovation involves carefully planned incremental change to existing products, services or processes. This approach results in improved products and services, greater efficiency and better value for your customers.

Influencing and Negotiation Skills

The ability to create influence and negotiate for a successful agreement is a core skill for everyone involved in any type of organisation. Effective negotiation skills help to create solutions where two parties are attempting to reach agreement, where there are areas of both common ground and difference. Many interactions in a professional environment involve a series of negotiations whose outcome could be the difference between success and failure. This course is designed to enable you to be more confident, influential and persuasive at work through recognising the link between your communication skills and the impact they can have on others. This practical workshop combines the science and art of influence with the process of negotiating; preparing, investigating, proposing, bargaining and closing.

Following this workshop delegates will have developed the skills required to create influence and negotiate for a successful agreement and create lasting collaborative solutions.

Productive Meeting Skills

Meetings and business discussions are a vital part of an organization's decision-making process. However, for many, these interactions can be meaningless, lead to interpersonal conflict and wasted time. Professionally managed meetings can have a massive impact on team motivation and effectiveness. This workshop helps delegates to structure meetings, develop facilitation skills, manage conflict and lead the meeting to a specific outcome with agreed actions. This practical workshop is facilitated using group discussion, individual exercises and team activities. The course is aimed at anyone working within project environments including team members, project leaders and managers. The aim is to provide a practical and readily usable toolkit to give participants greater ability and confidence in managing and delivering projects within scope, on time and within budget. This is achieved through a series of tutorials, self-assessment exercises and team workshops.

The workshop focuses on effective communication skills, time management, meeting skills, presentation skills, leadership, team motivation, influence and dealing with conflict. Coaching & Mentoring

Business coaching works best when used to help individuals address specific professional development issues or to assist when taking on a particularly challenging work role of project. Coaching sessions are driven by the needs of the client. It is about assisting people to achieve their full potential, with a focus on what they want to achieve now and in the future. It is a partnership between the business coach and the client and is for a defined period of time.

Focused Partnerships offer Business Coaching in three key areas:

  • Personal Development – Reaching True Potential
  • Business Thinking – Change that adds value
  • Execution – Getting Things Done

Our mentoring programme is aimed at unlocking your potential to maximise your own performance. Our focus is on your potential and what you can achieve in the future rather than your current performance and what you are achieving now.

We use a widely recognised mentoring framework - the GROW model - for conducting effective business coaching. This follows the sequence of:

  • Setting a Goal
  • Checking the Reality of the current situation
  • Then generating Options for what could be done to achieve the Goal
  • And finally deciding What is to be done, when, and developing the Will to do it.

The programme consists of an initial objective setting visit followed by 5x2hr coaching sessions

DEL’s Impact Programme offers eligible companies a bursary for Focused Partnerships coaching & mentoring.

  • Overcome limiting beliefs
  • More confidence

Personal development planning helps people to increase motivation, set better goals and accomplish them faster.

Business Thinking

Innovation is a process of change that creates or adds value to your products and services.

Some people believe they are not creative. The truth is that we are all creative - we can all produce new ideas and do so everyday of our lives. Most successful innovation involves carefully planned, incremental change to existing products, services or processes.

Innovation Coaching inspires you to think bigger to develop your ideas into meaningful projects resulting in improved products and services, greater efficiency and better value for your customers.

Execution

Brilliant ideas, compelling vision, strategic business plans and well defined strategies are all critically important and so is the ability to focus on setting clear objectives and following through until the desired results are achieved.

Execution is about setting objectives, planning, monitoring, problem solving, leadership, team management, time management and instilling an attitude of getting things done.

Execution Coaching gets you focused on the fundamentals and helps you to break things down into achievable steps so that you take daily action to implement your ideas.

Bridgene McKeever
Group Sales & Marketing Manager
McKeever Hotels Ltd.

"Undertaking the programme with Focus Partnerships proved to be very beneficial for Corr’s Corner Hotel. Having someone co-ordinate issues, asking questions to help think outside the box, looking at how suggestions for improvement would affect other areas was fantastic, resulting in the hotel being able to solve issues that have been problematic for years. The entire process has changed the way in which the hotel brainstorms and discusses issues. Neil and Mark were fantastic to work with, ensuring that everyone felt at ease, ideas were listened to and helped keep everyone engaged.

I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone, the focus, ideas and objectives, along with ways to implement that comes from the sessions is incredible. Rarely do you come across a programme that has such a profound affect on your business with the ability to completely change and improve business thinking. I look forward to working with them again in the future."

Edel Pauley, Owner/Manager Pauley Business Services

"The training which has been implemented has got the thought processes going in not just what we want but what could make life easier for our clients and thus ultimately ourselves. The staff and myself have subconsciously now already been thinking of new methods, solutions, opportunities etc in our day-to-day interactions with current clients, approach to recent new clients and forward planning for potential new clients.

The main feedback is in awareness of what does and doesn’t work for us and thus the client and putting ourselves in control to sort this.  The whole scenario has given the staff a chance to realise the potential for PBS to expand and especially in this current climate to strengthen the backbone of our business in order to survive and where to look for our ‘seeds’ in order to grow. As with any ‘seed’ packet the more you shake the more spills out  in terms of thoughts and matrix training has given us tips on focusing, learning to prioritise and delegate in order to plant the most relevant ‘seeds’ first.

From my own personal view, at least now, all the initial ideas for wanting to grow are not all just in my head, but out in the staff domain and steadily going to be worked at and hopefully milestones will be achieved and my dreams for expansion will be fulfilled."

Independent Evaluation of Fast Business Building Programme for
Newtownabbey Borough Council

"Overall the programme has been rated very highly by the participants whose companies were involved – indeed, the general consensus was that the Programme exceeded all expectations in terms of both processes and impact.

A key strength of the programme that stood out amongst the interviews was that FOCUSED partnerships helped identify goals, objectives and key areas for improvement which they would either not have seen themselves or did not have the time to think about how they would implement these changes. The other key strength identified was that short term action points were identified and prioritized and participants were expected to implement these between meetings. This highlights the action orientation of the Programme.

Our core conclusion is therefore that the pilot programme was highly successful and had a tangible and positive impact on all of the participating businesses. If Newtownabbey is seeking innovative interventions to support the SME sector in the Borough, it is such programmes that are likely to produce tangible results in terms of new sales, new processes and increased strategic direction. "

Professor Yvonne Galligan
Founding Director The Centre for Advancement of Women in Politics Queen’s University, Belfast

"Mark has been delivering goal setting and career development training for ‘The Next Generation’ Women’s Leadership Programme since 2006. Mark is one of our most popular facilitators and his sessions consistently score a 100% satisfaction rating from participants. His approach challenges participants’ perceptions of self, while his very practical and interactive style provides them with tools and ideas which they can take away and put into practice. We have been delighted with Mark’s expertise, high standards of delivery and ability to respond to a wide range of training needs and participant backgrounds. Mark’s personality, professionalism and flexibility have made working with him a very positive experience and we would highly recommend Mark for any future work.
